Potential New Refs for the 2010 - 2011 Season At their regularly scheduled meeting on July 5, 2010 the New Hamburg Hockey Association (NHHA) passed resolutions that: 1) Requires all new entry level referess in NHHA to attend the OMHA Referee School 2) Will limit the number of entry level referees in the NHHA.
The first resolution is intended to ensure that new referees have the best educational foundation when entering the world of refereeing in the NHHA. The OMHA allows referees to start their career by either attending a one day clinic or their 3 day Referee School . The one day clinic provides class room sessions only. The the 3 day Referee School provides extensive class room sessions, guest speakers, and two ninety minute ice times. The Referee School also provides a comfortable environment for dialogue between new and experienced referees. New referees who attend the OMHA Referee School are much better prepared to start refereeing than those that attend the one day clinic.
The second resolution will provide new referees an opportunity to gain more on-ice experience on a regular basis. This is important as regular experience is a conerstone to the development of any skill.
Anyone interested in refereeing NHHA hockey in New Hamburg should contact Alex Davidson to let their intentions be known. If more individuals show an interest than there is room for new refs, those that have expressed an interest first will receive priority consideration for participation this season.
Alex can be contacted at 519-662-1020 or alsuhest@rogers.com
